Technical Director – Transport/Infrastructure


The role requires a technically competent, highly engaging leader to support and motivate a high performing team of designers, surveyors and engineers delivering diverse projects.  This role will suit a positive, self-driven individual that enjoys building and managing relationships internally and externally to deliver specialist results.

The Brief:

The Technical Director will lead, promote and contribute towards the growth of a service or sector for Vitruvius enabling a strong market presence.  The role will provide technical leadership business wide including business case development, feasibility and market analysis for social and economic infrastructure projects, and project delivery compliance and process management.

The Technical Director will be engaged with the sector though staying abreast of industry insights and trends to inform the business strategy.

The Technical Director will draw on resources across the business working collaboratively on best practice, innovation and quality project delivery. The focus will be on technical delivery of project material and the processes used to achieve Vitruvius and client KPIs.

The role is required to build and manage a high performing and engaged team of engineers, technicians, project management and technical design & draughting for infrastructure (rail and road transportation and three waters). The role will also have oversight of quality, planning, progress reporting, work scheduling and support of staff where required.

In addition the role has significant influence over the future direction of Vitruvius and will be expected to govern the development of new technologies, applications and risk.

The successful candidate will have:

  • 15+ years of experience working in a complex environment
  • Degree qualification in Engineering
  • Chartership in Engineering (or working towards) or equivalent
  • Experience in business development and relationship building
  • Experience of influence and stakeholder management
  • Experience applying commercial acumen to projects
  • Experience as a successful leader
  • Full drivers license
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills
