About the Role

Are you ready to make a meaningful impact on complex water infrastructure projects? Vitruvius is seeking a Water and Wastewater Project Engineer who takes ownership, thinks critically, and delivers practical engineering outcomes across the full project lifecycle.

In this role, you will be embedded in project teams, contributing from feasibility and design through to construction and commissioning. You will work across disciplines and play a key part in delivering fit-for-purpose infrastructure that meets client, programme, and budget expectations.

What You Will Do

As a Water and Wastewater Engineer, you will:

  • Support delivery of water and wastewater projects across design, construction, and commissioning phases.
  • Prepare and review engineering deliverables, including reports, calculations, drawings, and specifications.
  • Contribute to the design of pipelines, pump stations, and treatment systems.
  • Provide construction-phase support, including site inspections, and technical issue resolution.
  • Assist with commissioning, testing, and defect close-out.
  • Manage programme, risk, and deliverables across multiple workstreams.
  • Build strong relationships with clients, councils, contractors, and suppliers through clear communication.

What You Will Bring to Vitruvius

Essential experience and skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Around 5+ years’ experience delivering water and or wastewater infrastructure projects.
  • Experience across design and construction phases.
  • Involvement in pipelines, pump stations, rising mains, or treatment plant projects
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision.
  • Working toward or holding CPEng (Engineering New Zealand).

Bonus points for:

  • Experience with hydraulic modelling or interpreting modelling outputs.
  • Exposure to MSQA, commissioning, or construction monitoring.
  • Experience in design and construct or collaborative delivery environments.
  • Familiarity with tools such as Plant3D, Revit MEP, or Civil 3D.
  • Full driver’s licence and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
