Vitruvius is looking for a Graduate Water Engineer to join our Wellington team and support the delivery of water infrastructure projects across drinking water, wastewater, stormwater, and flood resilience.

This is a hands-on graduate role where you’ll work across the full project lifecycle, from planning and investigation through to design and delivery. You’ll be supported by experienced engineers while building the technical capability, project experience, and confidence needed to progress toward Chartership.

What You Will Do

As a Graduate Water Engineer, you will:

  • Support engineering assessments, analysis, and design outputs for water infrastructure projects under the guidance of Senior Engineers.
  • Prepare technical documentation, including design reports, drawings, models, cost estimates, specifications, contract documentation, proposals, and bid submissions.
  • Contribute to project delivery in line with agreed scope, programme, budget, and quality expectations.
  • Take part in site visits and inspections to collect information, monitor construction progress, and support construction monitoring where required.
  • Participate in project meetings and help document actions, decisions, and outcomes.
  • Build positive working relationships with colleagues, clients, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Contribute to a strong team culture by showing professionalism, inclusion, respect, and accountability.

What You Will Bring to Vitruvius

Essential Experience and Skills:

  • A degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Natural Resources, or a Washington Accord equivalent qualification.
  • 0 to 3 years’ experience in an engineering environment.
  • Strong computer literacy and the ability to prepare clear project reporting and documentation.
  • Strong communication skills and a willingness to work toward Chartership.
  • Integrity, self-motivation, and the confidence to ask for help and speak up when it matters.

Bonus Points For:

  • Consultancy experience.
  • Experience with 12D, Civil 3D, Revit, AutoCAD, or QGIS.
  • An understanding of New Zealand standards, guidance, and relevant legislation.
  • Experience in a leadership position or the ability to adapt and respond well to change.
