About the Role
Vitruvius is looking for a Senior Water Engineer to take a lead role in delivering high-quality water infrastructure projects across the three waters sector. This position is well suited to someone who enjoys combining deep technical expertise with client engagement, project leadership, and mentoring others.
You’ll be trusted to own technical outcomes, contribute to sector growth, and represent Vitruvius with confidence and professionalism. Working closely with clients and internal leaders, you’ll help shape solutions that meet business needs while strengthening long-term partnerships.
What You Will Do
As a Senior Water Engineer, you will:
- Lead the technical delivery of water engineering projects from concept through to construction.
- Act as Project Leader on assigned projects, managing scope, programme, budget, and quality.
- Provide technical direction, mentoring, and support to developing engineers.
- Build and maintain strong, trusted relationships with clients and project partners.
- Contribute to the growth and execution of Vitruvius’ Water Sector strategy.
- Ensure project documentation, digital assets, and approvals are complete and well managed.
- Champion health, safety, and wellbeing across all projects and work environments.
- Support quality assurance processes, including technical reviews and MSQA activities during construction where required.
What You Will Bring to Vitruvius
Essential experience and skills:
- 8+ years’ experience working on water engineering projects.
- Strong design experience within the three waters sector.
- Proven experience leading and working within multidisciplinary project teams.
- Confidence influencing stakeholders and managing client relationships.
- Sound commercial acumen and experience delivering projects to programme and budget.
- A Washington Accord engineering degree or equivalent.
- A solid understanding of responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015.
Bonus points for:
- Experience delivering complex or high-risk projects.
- Demonstrated success as a technical or people leader.
- NZS 3910 administration or Engineer’s Representative experience.
- Chartered Professional Engineer status or working towards it.
- Formal training or certification in health and safety management.
- Full driver’s licence and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
