In a promising leap forward for Tauranga City’s sports infrastructure, Vitruvius is set to embark on an ambitious project for Tauranga City Council (TCC), designing the city’s first artificial surface at Links Avenue Reserve in Mount Maunganui. This is Vitruvius’ first project for TCC under the ‘Tauranga Reserves Panel’. and supports the concept of a ‘Home of Football’ for Tauranga City.
The planned upgrade will transform the Links Avenue Reserve into a sporting haven. The primary focus is to elevate the reserve’s capacity by introducing three full-size football pitches, including one fully artificial turf, and an expansion to the current on-site parking facilities. The proposed works not only promises a consistent playing experience, but also strengthens the overall resilience of the reserve and enables higher utilization, regardless of the weather,
The timing of this project couldn’t be more relevant, considering the recent fervor surrounding the FIFA Women’s World Cup, hosted in New Zealand. Riding the wave of this football enthusiasm, Vitruvius are poised to contribute to the sport’s success by delivering top-notch infrastructure that will enable Tauranga City to nurture local talent and host various sporting events seamlessly.
Vitruvius have been appointed as the civil designers for the project to provide survey, stormwater management, earthworks, traffic design, for the carpark and new entry/exits and servicing of the site. This is a multidisciplinary project which will draw on Vitruvius’s core services of Survey, Civil, Waters and Transport. We will be teaming up with and supporting Jacobs, as experts in artificial turf design.
Leading the project is Vitruvius Business Leader Charlie Sherratt, who is committed to the timely and successful delivery for TCC, Tauranga City AFC and the local community.
